As a parent, it can be challenging to navigate the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) landscape alone. That’s why the Tower Hamlets SEND Independent Parent Forum (THIPF) was established. Our mission is to provide a supportive network and resources for parents and carers of children with SEND. We believe that by empowering parents, we can improve outcomes for children with SEND.
Who We Are
THIPF is run by a group of parents and carers of children with SEND who have first-hand experience navigating the system. We know how isolating and overwhelming it can be, and we want to make sure that no parent in Tower Hamlets feels alone. Our members come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but we all share a common goal: to ensure that every child with SEND receives the support they need to reach their full potential.
We work closely with local authorities, schools, and other organisations to provide parents with up-to-date information and guidance. We also organise events and workshops where parents can network, share experiences, and learn new skills. Our members are passionate about making a difference and are always willing to go the extra mile to support parents and carers.
Our Services
At THIPF, we offer a range of services to support parents and carers of children with SEND:
- Information and Advice: Our website and helpline provide parents with up-to-date information on SEND, local services, and support networks.
- Training and Workshops: We organise regular workshops on topics such as understanding SEND law, managing challenging behaviour, and preparing for meetings with schools and local authorities.
- Support Groups: We run a variety of support groups, including a parent-to-parent support group, a language-specific support group, and a group for parents of children with autism.
- Campaigning: We advocate for the rights of children with SEND and their families, both locally and nationally.
